Guys…I chopped my hair off O.O I haven’t had more than a trim in years and a few weeks ago I started thinking about maybe possibly cutting it. Then after a night of pinning shorter hair cuts I decided it NEEDED to be done and I love it!I’m excited to see how it will look all curled and messy.

Nicole and I went out for dinner and then headed up to the roof of her building to take outfit photos. I’ve been watching too much Satisfaction on Netflix and my outfit was inspired by Nat’s sexy business lady style.

We had our first snow flurries of the season yesterday and I was thrilled to finally have a new winter coat to wear when I take Piglet for a walk. My giant brown down coat is just not cute unless I’m shoveling two feet of snow. We ended up matching like a couple of dorks so I figured I’d take a few photos. I love the collar on this coat – it makes me feel like a spy.

So I’m probably the last person you’d ever expect to show up with dreads, but when Irina suggested we have them put in for our witch doctor costume I decided to go for it. The lovely Miss Stein made them and then braided them into our hair the night of the show. Irina was totally right, they completely made the costume.

I kept them in for two days and while they were a bit uncomfortable to sleep on, they started to grow on me – I felt like a badass warrior. I actually started to think about getting them for real, but they didn’t look as cool when I took them out of a bun & they just don’t do as good of a sexy hair flip as my natural hair haha. So I spent last night watching Gossip Girl and taking them out and ended up with the biggest, weirdest fro. Not a good look on me!

In my organizing I also realized that pinning products is fairly fruitless as the items sell out and disappear at some point. So, at least for these two boards, I’m going to be pinning only editorial and personal style images.

How do you pin?

Lately my outfit photos have consisted of me posing in front of my bathroom mirror, so I decided to actually set up my tripod and take a few pictures this time. I bought this skully tank on a random Loehmann’s shopping spree over the weekend. I also snagged an amazing floor-length striped cotton dress and considered shooting it as well, but got lazy so it will have to wait for another day.

You can also see that my sapphire/teal streaks have turned purple and green. It makes me think of a unicorn and I love it!

I didn’t feel like getting out of bed yesterday, but my to-do list and calendar are quite full and I knew I had to work at some point. I lazed in bed reading The Paris Wife until Slayer jumped on top of me to make me get up.

I parked myself on the couch with a bowl of granola and started coding the site I’d been putting off for a week. It’s a little more complicated than my usual blog designs with three separate templates, two navigation menus and eight photo slideshows. I knew I’d need to do a little research to get all of it working right and, really, who likes research? But I made myself start working and was relieved to find the pieces coming together more smoothly than expected.

I flew through that first template, shot a vignette with candy and lipstick for another client and then started coding a bright, ethereal site for one of my circus friends.

I’m excited to share some new designs over the next few weeks. I’ve had a rash of clients go missing just as I was ready to install their templates, so I’ve been itching to actually put something online.

Have any of you designers had to deal with that? Clients paying a deposit, going through the entire process and then disappearing just as you’re ready to install?

Another little step away from the corporate world – I hung out with my favorite stylist last week and let him color my blonde, blue! As usual I let him do whatever he wants and he striped it teal and sapphire. I love how it turned out!

It’s always been important to me that my job not ban employees from having tattoos, colored hair or piercings (even though I don’t have any…not even my ears). A few years ago I gave away all my gray work pants and button down shirts. I felt so much more relaxed and creative sitting down to my desk in my own wardrobe, not some stiff silhouette someone once decided was appropriate for an office setting.

But now I’m the boss and I get to make the rules. So I’m currently parked on the couch, sans makeup, with my hair in a bun, wearing comfy black pants and an orange tie dye sports bra. And wouldn’t you know, I have more intense focus and wild motivation than ever before :)

This dress is not something I’d usually wear (as Mae pointed out – flowers, what??), but it’s really comfy – not too short and not too low cut. And with the striped tights it feels a little more circus than babydoll. I figured after being parked on the couch all day working on a new template I should probably get dressed and brush my teeth or something. Yes, I’m officially the stereotypical freelancer!

Dinner date with Mandy – we finally had a chance to try Hot Taco and it did not disappoint. The tacos were delicious and hot of course! It was nice to spend a sunny Friday downtown. We totally went to a second restaurant for dessert and had tiramisu and a chocolate tart. I pretended I had already made my escape from the cube and Mandy and I were just taking a break from our sweet freelance lives to hang out. Getting so close :)

This weekend Irina and I performed our duo lyra routine at an event at U of M. Since I didn’t have much going on during the afternoon I decided to curl my hair, which is rare lately since it takes over an hour now that my hair is so long. I tried to take a video, but haven’t quite figured out the settings on my camera yet, so it filled the card and shut off after a few minutes. Oops! I’ll figure it out and try again soon.

On a random note, would any of you be interested if I reviewed fake lashes? I’ve used a bunch of different kinds since I wear them for most shows.

We somehow managed to fit the entire rig and both of us in my little Scion and when we got to Ann Arbor we realized the room we’d be performing in was not as big as expected. We set the rig up (with the audience watching the entire time) at half size and it just fit! If the rig was an inch wider or the room had been an inch smaller we wouldn’t have been able to perform at all!

Per usual when we visit Ann Arbor, we ended the night with two orders of waffle fries from Ashley’s. We always end up sitting at the bar waiting for our order looking all goofy in circus costumes and makeup, but their food is so good it’s well worth all the strange looks.
