A few weeks ago I added a Motown station to my Pandora. Seeded with ‘It’s in His Kiss,’ gem after gem popped up on my phone and it’s all I’ve been listening to for the past month! Here are some of my favorites…

It’s lovely and sunny outside today (though still a little cold) so I spiced up my generally all black wardrobe with bright pink. Revlon lip stain in Flame and Sally Hansen Hard as Nails in Dahlia w/ OPI Shatter on top.

And danced around to Green Day while I got ready for work :)

I’d never heard of them and thought it was going to be some sort of folksy, singer-songwriter stuff. Good, but not really my thing. Boy was I wrong! The Mighty Stef at times reminded me of Johnny Cash mixed with Dropkick Murphys. They were fantastic live and I completely recommend checking out their show if they stop in your city. They’re from Dublin, so who knows when they’ll be back. You can see a list of shows here.

I’ve seen Bad Religion many times and last night was one of their best shows. After thirty years they are still as tight as ever. They played my favorite song, the one by which I was introduced to them in high school via mixtape (that was an actual tape), “I Want to Conquer the World.” There is something about their live show that makes it impossible for me to take my eyes off the stage. Their lyrics are still genius and they are still punk as fuck.

+ writing in my journal every night + inspiring story telling workshop + my birthday being just one month away (yikes!) + beer tents + fingerless gloves + bbq party crawling with attractive men (seriously, Lana and I were drooling there was so much mancandy) + late night tacos in Mexican Town + spending the day in the shadow of the train station – it felt kinda special to be in its presence all day + french toast + mom making dinner + August Rush (always makes me cry!) + pear cider + spur of the moment hangs + Groupon – me and a couple other MI bloggers have another adventure up our sleeves + surprise cookies + Sweeney Todd + kisses foiled by sneaky cats + coming into my warm house after being frozen all day + walks with Slayer at dusk + fall smells + Halloween decorations + letters and old family pictures from Grandma + hanging out with the MI bloggers + Sons of Anarchy + honey crisp apples + surprise passes to Bouncing Souls and Bad Religion + purple sparkly nails + Get Up Kids sing-a-longs + cases of chips at work every day this week + the train wreck that is The Real Housewives + knee socks with boots + Big Sexy Hair products – POW did something magic to my hair +

I raced home after work to feed Slayer and douse myself in sequins, hairspray and eye liner. My cousin Maria showed up and then we picked up Jenn and my coworker Lyle and headed downtown.

During the opening acts we walked around the concourse checking out everyone’s outfits. I was hoping to see some drag queens in leotards, but they must have all been at last night’s show.

Virgin Mobile had a mini-photoshoot set up and Lyle and I decided we needed to have our pictures taken. A few years ago I would have probably been an onlooker, wanting to be part of the fun, but not having the balls to pose in front of a bunch of strangers. So I was proud of myself for just doing it.

I think it turned out pretty good!

Back in the suite we watched the crowd below turn into a dance party. I kept thinking it looked like a dance recital because of all the sequins and spandex.

Michael Jackson blasted from the speakers and everyone in the arena watched two people in the stands have a spur-of-the-moment dance off. Then a guy, who appeared to be working, showed off his MJ moves and had the whole crowd cheering for him.

And now for the most important part of the evening…GAGA! She was so good! Lights and glitter and fur and a Cleopatra headdress and sexy men dancing. She played everything I wanted to hear and she sounded fantastic! I decided that “Boys, Boys, Boys” is my new theme song!

Most of the people in the suites were just chilling, watching the show, but Lyle and I danced our asses off. My voice is a little hoarse this morning from singing at the show and during our little punk rock sing-a-long on the way home.
