It’s always nerve wracking, when you love a book so much (I read it twice), to see it made into a movie. I wanted all my favorite parts included and intact, and in my opinion, the director did a great job making sure the movie lived up to the book. I loved that there were parts taken verbatim from the text -  I was anticipating the words coming out of the actor’s mouths, thinking “Say it! Say it!”

It seemed there was a lot of back story leading up to her traveling, whereas in the book it’s just immediately in your face, sobbing on the bathroom floor, crazy conversations with God, which made her taking off around the world more believable and understandable. I found a few parts to be slow moving – I knew what Gilbert was thinking, but I’m not sure how it would come across to someone who hasn’t read the book.

Wayan and Ketut were perfectly cast and I wish there had been more of them in the movie. I wanted to step into the screen and hang out in Wayan’s shop all day. James Franco as David didn’t thrill me – maybe that’s exactly what he was like in real life, but I pictured someone different when I read the book.

I know not everyone was a fan of Eat Pray Love, but if nothing else, the scenery and food are beautiful, and of course, Julia Roberts is impossibly charming.

Throughout the movie I kept thinking “I’m doing it – I’m on my journey.”  I may not be flying around the world, stuffing my face with pizza and meditating all day, but I’m having my own adventure right here at home and figuring out where I want to be in life. I’m doing something a little crazy, taking every chance to get out with my friends, meeting new people and taking all the time I need to just be alone. It  made me feel good that I’m taking care of myself and hopeful for what I could manifest with all this positive energy.

Friday after work I settle on the couch to watch movies on Netflix and paint my nails. (the magenta is by Milani and the silver is OPI) I watch Incendiary, which is completely depressing and You, Me and Everyone We Know which is super awkward. I’m just not a fan of movies where everyone is all weird and wearing outfits my grandma still has in her closet. I also watch Seven Pounds which is really good!

Saturday is circus class as usual – I fell off the trapeze a couple weeks ago hanging from that leg, but this week I am able to hold on. I don’t feel as courageous as usual even though we’re just reviewing the tricks we’ve learned this session, but I force myself to do cuddle (which is not cuddly AT ALL) and star drop so that it will stop making me nervous. I call the instructor a hippy even though he claims to be punk rock and he threatens to make me do warm-ups next week until my arms and legs fall off. Crossing my fingers that I don’t end up in his group, but I plan to work on my one-arm crunches just in case!

Sunday I wake up to Slayer snuggled in my comforter which is crammed against the wall because it is way too hot to sleep under down. I take forever getting ready because my shoulders are super sore and my legs are covered in bruises from circus class. After a failed attempt at getting an oil change I meet-up with Jessica and we head to the Royal Oak Garage Sale – three floors of a parking garage full of junk. We wander around for a while in the sweltering heat and then exit as soon as we hit the top floor. We swing by her work for beverages and then stop by Angie’s store to chat and hang out in the AC. She immediately takes us in the back and opens the freezer to reveal a shitload of popsicles. We sit out side with her for a while as she runs the sidewalk sale and dig through the bins of cheap jewelry. I find a giant rhinestone Hello Kitty for two bucks – score!

A year or so ago I read a hair tutorial from a stylist saying she wraps her wet hair in a low bun after a shower and it comes out all wavy and pretty. I’ve been trying to get it right for a while, but my layers were too short and left my hair looking kinda wacky. But yesterday…success! There were a few stragglers that I had to whip out my iron and curl, but it’s almost all from air-drying in a bun.

Today is my mom’s 50th birthday. I called her a few minutes ago and she was partying at the casino with her sisters, mom and aunt. I’m headed out to meet her and my dad for dinner after work and then we’ll celebrate on Friday with my brother and sister too. And of course we’re throwing her a huge party at the end of July once my parent backyard is finished. Yay! I love family celebrations!

OK, last post for today. These bags are just too hot to not share. All studded and zippery and vegan leathery-liscious. This little black one is coming to live with me!

1. Pick a base color, paint and let dry. For my Gaga nails I used black polish with Cover Girl glitter polish in Gold Rush and 3mm red flat-back rhinestones.

2. Find some bling. I wouldn’t go much larger than 3mm or they may not completely stick to your nails. You can also find lots of nail art supplies on Etsy.

I prefer to use the glue that comes with a brush instead of the tiny tubes that come with press-on nails. Put a small dot of glue on your nail then place the bling and press for a few seconds with the tip of a bobby pin. (If you’re having trouble picking up those tiny rhinestones wet your finger a little and it will stick.)

3. For dots and stripes try Sally Hansen Nail Art Pens or craft paint and a tiny brush. Make sure to let your base coat dry completely before using the pens because your dots/stripes will crack as the nail polish settles. Then let the dots/stripes dry completely because it’s easy to wipe them off with your top coat if you’re not careful.

4. To apply glitter press the side of the brush against your nail – you’ll get more glitter than if you just swipe it across. I usually let it dry for a few seconds and apply glitter two or three more times – I like a lot of glitter! Applying glitter along the tip of my nail seems to keep it from chipping longer.

5. Cover your nails in a clear top coat and you’re done!
