I Dare You…
Posted on February 24, 2010

This year, along with my little happiness obsession, I’m trying to experience as many new things as possible. Shooting guns, swinging on a trapeze, internet dating, I’ve checked those off my list and now I’m looking for your suggestions.
What places should I visit, feats of courage should I attempt, recipes should I whip up, books should I read? What crazy, fun thing have you always wanted to try but never had the time, money, or balls? Big or small, I’ll try almost anything once. So please, shove me out of my box and give me something new to do.
Once or twice a month I’ll try one of your suggestions and blog about it. For each item I check off I’m going to challenge you to do something as well. Who knows, maybe I’ll even throw a little incentive in there too – bake you cupcakes, serenade you with Monster Ballads.
Leave your idea in the comments, shoot me an email xosillygrrl@gmail.com, or use the form below if you want to be quick or anonymous.
Just a few notes, I’m vegetarian so, as delicious as it sounds, I’m unfortunately not going to try your meaty meat with meat sauce recipe. I’m also not rolling in cash, so feel free to suggest skiing the Alps, I’ll add it to my list, but I probably won’t be packing my bags any time soon.
Ready? Set…GO!
P.S. Thanks to everyone who commented on my LuLu’s entry. You rock! Tell your friends

Saturday night I had the extreme pleasure of seeing Frontiers: A Tribute to Journey. For those of you shaking your heads, thinking it was some half-assed drunken Journey cover band. It was not! It was amazing!

My cousin, brother and I showed up a little after 8 thinking, if nothing else, it will be really cheesy and entertaining. We were definitely the youngest people in the room, which was filled with mostly 40-something who were SEATED, drinking beer and EATING POPCORN.
After an hour of standing around feeling awkward, the opener – an old dude jam band – came on stage. Not my jam, not my jam at all. There was lots of gross hair flipping, awkward dance moves, and cheesy inspiring lyrics. The crowd was producing equally awkward dance moves and made me a little paranoid that I would end up a 40-something trying too hard to be hip and sexy. I was very relieved when I caught sight of one women who still looked hot and could dance. Whew!

Frontiers took the stage around 10 and it was fantastic! The singer sounded exactly like Steve Perry. The whole crowd was singing along and they played all the songs I wanted to hear. There was a couple, probably in their 70s, absolutely loving the show, arms in the air, singing along – it was adorable! Frontiers played for close to two hours, with two encores and a really fancy drum solo.

My brother’s “rock face”
Frontiers is on tour right now and I totally recommend picking up Journey’s Greatest Hits and checking out their show.

Sunday’s aerial yoga class was all review. Instead of doing the usual three or four tricks, we did eight. Ria and I warmed up on the trapeze – I did 25 crunches hanging upside down. I really though my abs were going to hurt today, but aside from the bruises, my hands are the only body part still in pain.

Me looking terrified on the trapeze. I don’t mind climbing to the ceiling on the fabric, but the trapeze still scares me. Especially since for this trick I’m supposed to bend my knees and straighten my left arm so I’m just hanging there. Hello rope burn

Now let me tell you about my date. I don’t usually go out after my aerial class because I’m totally worn out, but hottie OkCupid guy wanted to hang out, so I agreed to. We went downtown to see My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done at the Burton. The movie was good, my date was cute and funny, it all seemed to be going so well until he kissed me.
I will spare you the slobbery details. Just know my first thought after OHMYGODWHATTHEFUCKISHAPPENINGTOMYFACE was of you, my dear readers. I knew that being aggressively assaulted by a tongue was completely blogworthy, but I don’t want to write about bad dates and then have said dates find my blog and feel bad. I’ll just say it was a bit like SATC Charlotte and the face licker. (You can watch it on YouTube if you don’t know what I’m talking about.) Sooooyeah, I ended the kiss and the date as fast as possible and as sweet as he was, I don’t think we’ll be going out again.
I’m planning to take a week or so off from OkCupid to recover from that lovely experience. I’ll be staying in with Slayer, working on Half Broke Horses for the Slow Readers Book Club instead.

Today is beautiful! The sun is shining, I rocked out to “Imma Be” and “BedRock” on the way to work, I’m wearing hot pink lipstick and my coworker is buying me Subway for lunch! Ooh and a cute face is sending me sweet messages. OK, the sweet messages just upgraded to hot hahah
My plan was to take a photo every hour today, but I only made it to noon before my camera battery died. Oh well, I’ll do it another day.

Rockin’ fur boots today – I’m sure the fashion police are gonna arrest me any minute now!
A couple days ago I went on a date with the aforementioned cute face. We met at the bar for a drink. He’s a professor/comic book nerd, with glasses and a supermodel smile. He was fun and we’re going to hang out again. Yay
Last night I whipped up a batch of brownies and tossed them in the oven as I got ready to go out. I drove a couple blocks to the bar for a friend’s birthday – can’t wait until it’s nice enough to ride my bike again. Made the rounds, had a beer and was home in bed with the pup and a brownie by midnight.
My dad is coming over tomorrow and we’re going to test drive cars. I’m so excited!!

I just saw you posted “Red Wings Game” as one of the things on yout TiLT list on galadarling.com & I just wanted to say yes! I love the red wings and now I am going to follow your blog. Who is your favorite player?
I’ll admit that right now, as I’m sitting at my desk at work I have a picture of Zetterberg staring down at me. But, not simply going on who has the most dreamy eyes, I’d have to say Datsyuk is my favorite. He’s speedy and gets in a lot of fights and scores some goals blahblahwhatever
What was your favourite childhood movie? Are you a classic Disney type with Cinderella or did you go the forest route with Fern Gully? Or maybe the scary-as-hell route with The Neverending Story?
You kind of covered it all! I spent many afternoons as a kid singing along to The Little Mermaid and trying to create splashing rock scene in a wading pool. I was also and still am a huge fan of The Neverending Story series and The Labyrinth. I’ve seen FernGully many times too!

So I’m thinking of changing my hair color…maybe…possibly. I used to change the color all the time when it was short. I’d be blond, then red, then black, then orange, then some combination of all four. It was sort of a trademark – I was the one with different hair every month. Now I’ve had the some version of red/orange for the past four years and I’m itching for a change…I think…
I’m leaning toward strawberry or honey blond. Then I could be sneaky and add a little blue or green sometimes. But my hair is finally getting healthy and blond with definitely inflict some damage.

Or maybe I should go dark – chocolate, maybe with a hint of red?

Or I could go totally nuts and rock candy-colored hair, though I don’t know how well that would go over at work.

I’m also thinking of growing out my bangs and pushing them off to the side. But again…I don’t know! Straight bangs – that’s my thing! Look how pretty!!

And then of course I see beautiful girls with gorgeous orange locks and I don’t want to change at all…

But hair always grows…hmmmm. What do you think?

Happy Paczki Day! I love any day where giant delicious confections show up at work. The one I ate had raspberry filling and raspberry glaze…I could totally go for another

Jessica and I headed to Corktown for bbq at Slows last night. We sat at the bar and drank pear cider while we waited for a table and then downed mass amounts of vegetarian bbq and waffle fries.

Jenn was my Valentine this weekend – she stopped by my house on Saturday to give me a rose and torment Slayer.

While I didn’t manage to clean my house I did watch The Diving Bell and The Butterfly and Into The Wild. Both were incredible stories of perseverance. Diving Bell was a little difficult to watch in the beginning because you are seeing through the main character’s eyes who is just waking up from a coma. I also decided to stretch while I watched it and had to sit in awkward positions so I could read the subtitles. Into The Wild had beautiful scenic shots. I’ve always wanted to drive across the country and I’m thinking next summer I’ll take a week or two off and have a little Double Trouble vacation.

Today we learned a new climb where you sort of hook your leg and go upside down. I completely surprised myself and hooked my leg on the first try! It’s something I’ve been struggling to do the past couple weeks. I think all the crunches really helped. The above pose is candy cane leg, which I couldn’t quite get last week, but held on long enough to wrap my leg this week.
This the dolphin into the catchers mitt (I think that’s what it’s called). Instead of sitting on the bar you go up backwards so you’re on your belly. We were supposed to let go and balance, but I couldn’t get the bar in the right spot to do it.

Then fall forward and catch the ropes with your legs. I’m going to have some wicked bruises on my hips from trying to balance on that damn bar!

TA DA!

Went downtown for a friend’s birthday party last night with Triple Threat. Angie stopped at a gas station on the way for gum and plastic Valentine’s roses – she’s adorable. I knew it would be a good night when there were tequila shots before we even walked into the bar.

I got to hang out with a bunch of people I haven’t seen in a while. Frank White played an acoustic set. I didn’t drop a dollar, but drank all night. We took over the dudes bathroom and then some kid tried to hit on me by asking if I was a student. I met a guy whose grandparents live across the street and he remembered me from the Wired Frog days, which was at least eight years ago. We loaded the jukebox with Rancid and The Swellers and took video of ourselves singing along. All in all a successful night!!
P.S. I’m guest blogging over at Ria’s site while she’s on vacation – check it out!

Last night my coworkers and I had a little webteam field trip. We ordered three pizzas at Supino’s in Eastern Market. Not just regular pizza though, these had spinach, capers, roasted garlic, ricotta cheese and chili oil. The restaurant was cute and the tables and chairs were from a high school – think black slab tables from science class.
After dinner we met up with the sales department for the Wings game. The four of us sat outside the suite and actually watched while everyone else stayed inside, mostly talking about work. Super lame! I thought I wasn’t going to have a voice today from all the yelling Lyle (pictured above…yes, Lyle is a lady) and I did. We even started howling like coyotes at one point, but all our cheering was no help and the Wings lost in a shootout.
There was a really good fight though. The gloves and helmets came flying off and Miller went at it with some dude. I love hockey because there’s no other sport where the refs just stand by and watch the players pound each other into the ice.

Today I’m wearing half my outfit for tonight. After work I’ll ditch the jeans for leggings and despite AA’s warning, pretend they’re pants.
Sweater: Nordstrom + black tank: F21 + striped tee: Loehmanns + jeans: Delias + boots: Alloy + vintage silver bracelet + skullies bracelet + rhinestone skull ring, leopard print ring, rhinestone shotgun necklace: Incognito
