When I started training as an aerialist I never thought I’d be good enough to perform. And when I started performing it never occurred to me to teach. And after I got into teaching I never thought I’d be playing “Superman banana” with a room full of kids.
Kids have no fear, they will try anything. They are less likely to compare themselves negatively to other students and more likely to be brave if they see someone else accomplish something instead of hard on themselves. They are willing to look silly and ask for help easier than adults do. Instead of looking at everyone else to be next in line they are eager and excited to take their turn.
And, when I show up in Hello Kitty leggings they think I’m totally awesome.
The lesson is – don’t grip so tight to your final goal that you miss other little roads that may be as good as better than where you’re headed, that might add to your process, and enrich your life more than originally thought.
