That one time I got dreads

So I’m probably the last person you’d ever expect to show up with dreads, but when Irina suggested we have them put in for our witch doctor costume I decided to go for it. The lovely Miss Stein made them and then braided them into our hair the night of the show. Irina was totally right, they completely made the costume.

I kept them in for two days and while they were a bit uncomfortable to sleep on, they started to grow on me – I felt like a badass warrior. I actually started to think about getting them for real, but they didn’t look as cool when I took them out of a bun & they just don’t do as good of a sexy hair flip as my natural hair haha. So I spent last night watching Gossip Girl and taking them out and ended up with the biggest, weirdest fro. Not a good look on me!

Um yeah, love this. I’ve been debating whether or not to get dreads for a while now, and this makes me want them so badly! Just don’t know if it’s worth the work/hassle.

They do look really good on you!! I’ve thought about getting them before too but I would miss my natural hair too much.

Ah! You made me miss my dreads! I had a set of about 80 in my hair. I keep wanting to put them back in, but I keep thinking about sleeping on them again and the dreadache that comes along after the first few days. If you ever want to keep them, I found the best way to sleep on them is to put them in a Pebbles style bun on top of your head. It’s still super hot and uncomfortable, but you don’t feel like you’re being attacked by a squid in the night. I didn’t quite have all of my dreads in (I worked up to a full set each time) but it’s just the top section that’s missing: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y66/locker_elf/Dreads/CIMG4893.jpg

    Those looked fantastic on you!

They really do look great on you! But it’s probably just the sassy bun, and I would grow tired of the uncomfortable sleeping very quickly! Lovely for sometimes though and the costume looks great!

Thanks Mandy! Yeah, sleeping on them was not very comfortable and my scalp is definitely glad to be free of them now. If they looks as good down as they did up I probably would have rocked them for a little longer.

They look fabulous on you! I’ve always wanted to try synthetic dreads but I’ve never had the guts. You can totally pull them off!

You could definitely give them a shot! It took about 40 mins to put them in and then I took them out myself in about the same time. They’re a little expensive, but you can keep them in a month or so, so it’s a good test to see if you’d like the real thing.
