10 Way to Clean Up Your Blog was one of my most shared posts, so I’ve come up with a few more ideas to keep your blog in tip-top shape.
Shorter blog titles: Try writing titles that take up only one line. It will make your blog posts look much cleaner and it will challenge you to write better, more SEO-friendly titles.
Crop your photos: Instead of resizing your photos in Blogger or WordPress, try this…crop or resize your photos to the width of your blog with a website like Pixlr.com or Photoshop. It will allow for cleaner images and speed up your website’s load time (see next item :)
Speed up your load time: How fast does your blog load? Most readers will not wait more than 10 seconds before clicking away, so don’t use enormous or tons of images (see above), too many animated graphics (see below), or have lots of unnecessary code. Check your speed with this site and WordPress users can try the Minify Plugin.
Animated graphics: Skip the moving graphics or set a stop point. Animated gifs should loop between 3-5 times and then stop. Constantly moving images are a distraction from what you really want reader paying attention to…your content!
Subscription links: Make sure your subscribe links are easy to find and above the fold (the part of your blog you can see without scrolling). I can’t tell you how many awesome blogs I’ve visited and could not for the life of me find a way to subscribe. I might find my way back once in a while, but blogs I’m able to subscribe to have my attention every time they post.
