Nerd Party // Design Workshop
A few months ago the organizers of The Allied Media Conference emailed saying my name had been recommended (more than once…wha??!) and asked if I would like to submit a proposal to host an internet-related session. AMC is a weekend of workshops based around using all types of media to solve big issues. I was thrilled to be considered and was so happy when my proposal was accepted a few weeks later. I remember going to AMC a few years ago, back when I was head of an activist organization, tabling and handing out flyers and our FEMINIST buttons. It was so cool to see all the projects people were working on and learn about the issues they were so passionate about.
I’ve been working all week putting together a PowerPoint presentation and putting the finishing touches on exactly what I want to share. I’m not a huge fan of public speaking, but I can go on and on about nerdy stuff so I think that will help to calm my nerves. I actually laid in bed all by my lonesome the other night (after a couple glasses of wine), unable to sleep and just blathering on about Blogger and WordPress and Tweeting and creating content. I’m sure Slayer thought I was going nuts.
It’s been a little difficult to know exactly what to include since it’s a basic workshop and I’m not sure how much the participants will know. I’ve tried to incorporate enough information so those who are brand new to building sites won’t get lost and those who have a site already won’t be bored.
I never really considered hosting workshops before, but if all goes well I’m thinking of turning it into something I can host on a regular basis. Because, you know, I can never just sit still and work on one thing, my brain is always coming up with new ways to expand and share what I do. (Any of my Detroit peeps into this idea?)

So cool! I wish I could have stayed longer, but I was exhausted and promptly went home and fell asleep.
That sounds like a blast! Sadly, I’m in Florida, so I won’t be able to make it. lol That would be an awesome thing to host on a regular basis. It’s too bad you can’t work in your aerial routine into hosting; it would give you a huge competitive edge! :)
