[ Day Sarah / Night Sarah ]

This weekend was all about glitter, big hair, driving around and pie. (Though when are my weekends not about those things??) Friday, we coated ourselves in gold glitter, popped on the seashell headbands I made and performed as starfish to a room full of clowns. I was so very happy that my right boob decided to stay inside my costume even though my leotard really wanted to let it out. (Shout out to TopStick) There was free cotton candy, clown burlesque, and, of course, a pie fight.

Saturday we performed at a music & art festival about an hour away. We arrived to find our performance space was a roped off patch of grass just big enough for the rig, completely surrounded by families spread out on picnic blankets. As we navigated our way through the crowd with the rig (trying to not knock anyone out with the giant metal poles) I heard parents telling their kids, “The acrobats are here!” We performed three 15 minute sets and in between kid after kid came over to take photos of us and ask us questions about how we learned to fly.

It was honestly the first time I’ve really felt like a circus performer. Sure I spend a good part of my week building routines and rehearsing tricks, I’ve been on stage multiple times a month over the past year, and I have a rack full of costumes. But generally we perform for adults and most of them are probably thinking,”I bet I could do that” or “I want to learn to do that.” But not kids, kids are thinking “That is impossible.” It was like they were coming up to take a photo with Batman – equally excited out of their mind and terrified. And it was AWESOME.

Performing is always so much fun, but coming down from the lyra and having a little girl come up and sweetly say how much she liked the show and that my makeup is really pretty and could she have a photo with me is pretty much the best thing ever. I need to start giving my camera to the parents so I can have a copy of the photo too!
