What I’m Stopping
Danielle recently dropped a wicked truth bomb…
If you’re to realize your intentions, what you stop doing is just as important as what you start and continue to do. Stopping = the white space. Stopping = room to run free and create from the deepest place of being without restraint or compromise. Stopping = more time for what matters most.

I ran into her post just as I was thinking about the two things I’ve stopped doing in an effort to take pressure off myself, so I thought I’d share.
First, I’ve decided to take sponsorships off my blog starting next month. While I loved getting to know and featuring other bloggers, it was more work than what it was worth to myself or them. I think it’s almost turned into something we’re supposed to do when we hit a certain number of followers to prove our blogs are good enough, but for me, right now, it’s not something worth putting effort into.
I’d rather spend the time toward creating posts to help with blogging and design and I’ve got a little idea brewing to feature some bloggers who I think are doing a fantastic job.
The second thing I’m stopped doing is checking my email every five minutes when my phone vibrates. When I was on vacation I set my email to only update manually and when I got home I decided to leave it that way. I’m so glad I did. I’m no longer distracted all day by phone going off and instead can check it a couple times a day when I have time to focus solely on email.
Both of these things are adding to my plan of simplifying and removing stress from my life.
Have you stopped doing anything lately?

I’m so proud that you’ve been able to focus and unplug better. It’s wonderful.
Keep your head above water, and keep building your book. I’m so proud of you.
But I really do miss our daily lovemail and wish we could do it more. :(
i’m reading your blog for quite some time now, but i never commented – i’m just not the comment-type-of-girl, i guess… but i looked at your picture in this post and thought “wow, she looks amazing and actually really relaxed.” (your hair looks great, too, i’m trying to grow out my shortcut right now and am looking a ‘lil weird.) so, all the best from berlin, germany, andd keep on writing, i always enjoy your posts.
Aw thanks Meret! So cool to know I have a reader in Berlin :)
Thank you so much for posting this!
It is exactly what I needed to read.
I have been needing to stop some of my blogging/online musing around, etc… that isn’t contributing to my business and or life, but just hadn’t yet.
I am really bad about e-mail, lol. I check it WAY to often. Today, thanks to your post I decided to wait and check it later. So I had time for a yoga routine! :)
Very inspiring post as always, thank you.
Have a magical day!
You’re welcome! I didn’t realize how bad I was with email until I stopped. Glad it helped you too :)
I love this, thanks for sharing! I stumbled upon your blog last night via Pinterest and I love your Nerd Q & A series! I’ve learned so much already and I think you’ve convinced me to move from WordPress.com to self-hosted this weekend – thanks for the encouragement!
Yes! You’re going to love it! Good luck!
I think I’m going to take a cue from you and make sure my emails come to my phone after work. We’re allowed to have our cell phones on at work in case of an emergency with family, but everytime the phone blinks I pick it up. I’m tired of the emails.
I know! I felt like I had one hand on my phone all day! So much less stress just checking it once or twice a day.
I’ve thought about stopping the sponsorships on my blog too. You’re right that it’s a lot of work. I wish I could say I’ve stopped doing certain things. I can think of several that would make me more productive!
Unrelated but your blog seriously looks nicer every time I stop by! It’s so clean and organized!
Thanks Julie :) Sponsoring just ended up being more stress than it was worth. Maybe take a break and see how it feels?
I love Danielle’s Wicked Truth Bombs, too. My favorite post by her was on taking your time when you need to, and still going with your gut:

It’s always such an awesome feeling when you make these types of decisions– so congrats :-)
Different Danielle, but still a great post :)

Thanks Chandre!
