  1. Hi! New to the blog but it looks great! Super moronic question: when you say “wordpress” do you mean .org or .com? I’m new to blogging and am using .com and I THINK that means I can’t alter my code like you talk about- is that right? Also, if one day I want to get more hands on and move to .org can I do that?

    Thanks! xoxo -j

Generally it’s WordPress.org (self-hosted), but some of the simple CSS tutorials can be used with a WordPress.com upgrade. If you want to make lots of custom changes you’ll need to make the jump to WordPress.org.

I’m loving all the cute templates you post in your etsy shop… do you have any tips for those of us that might want to play around with making our own custom templates?

Hi! New to your site and I love it.

I’ve been working on my blog. Right now I have two tabs that I’ve made into a different layout with a gallery effect. I basically want all of my projects or recipes organized in this fashion so everything is easier to find. Right now, how it works requires you to click on the image, it takes you to the “post” where I have a photo linked. So you have to click the photo one more time to get it to go to the actual permalink- the project or recipe.

I’m sure there’s an easier way. I’ve seen catablog but that’s for wordpress and im blogger. any DECENT looking programs out there? maybe I’m just not searching for the right thing.

    Thanks!

I was wondering if there’s a way to add dafonts.com fonts onto your blog. If there is, do you know how?

    Hello Sarah

I have just started trapeze and was wondering if I could ask you a few questions about your trapeze boots that you purchased from Shannon.

Are you happy with them? Is there enough padding in the right places? Are they comfortable? How are they wearing, that is, what is their quality like?

And lastly what colour did you choose? (I like the colour in your pic – it looks like a “gun-metal-black?
    Thank-you
    Megan

I love my trap boots. They don’t actually have padding – it’s just the leather that protects your legs/feet from getting scraped up. She asks for about 20 measurements so they fit perfectly and they are comfortable but it takes some time to get used to performing in them. They are plain black.

  6. Is there a way to set up stand alone pages for an ecourse that someone could page through on Blogger (from a button on your blog) that would require a password to get into? Password so that when they buy, you could send them the password; but then they could access it from your blog. Hopefully that makes sense.

    • sillygrrl says:

Yes it does :) I know it’s possible to set up pages to not appear in the main navigation – I’ll check on the password option and write a Nerd Party post about this for next week.

I have my own aerial silks now… I have had it set up on a tree outside. Now that it is winter I can not do it outside anymore. What do you do in the winter time if I usual practice outside?

    • sillygrrl says:

Look at the ceiling of every place you go :) Right now I’m rehearing at a gymnastics center until our new space is finished. Lots of gyms, dance centers, community centers, venues, pole dance studios have taller ceilings with exposed beams. For a while we were even rehearsing at a dojo. Even if you don’t end up with 18ft tall ceilings, anything that will get you off the ground will work while it’s cold outside. Good luck!

    Hi Sarah,
This is not nerd related, but I think I have seen you post about make-up before. Since Weird Sisters probably know what make-up works/stays the best, I was hoping you could do a recommendation list for makeup for the fair skinned. I’m always looking for good deals. Buying La Mer is just not in the budget.
    Thanks,
    Amy

Hey Sarah, ive been wanting to center my post footer (where it says comments, labels, etc) for a long time..
    Do you know how?

    Kind regards,

I’m just started aerial in Toledo, OH (Closest to Kelleys Island, OH where I work and live). The dance studio I go to only offers once a week classes for aerial. I started taking the pole dance class right after to work on strength, but how did you get in shape without silk in your home or backyard? I’m thinking a rig is my last solution or its going to take me forever to get where I want.

  12. Meghan says:

I hope I can still ask a question. I’ve just started to really commit to my blog and making it the best I possibly can. My question is when should I start to consider advertising on other blogs or having ad space on my blog?
    Thanks!

Why hello there. First off, I am newish to reading blogs and attempting my own in the mean time. I have found your blog to be refreshing and a great resource for all things “nerdy and geeky”!! A few questions i can think of:

As someone just getting into all things blog, is Blogger really the best/most user friendly to be using?

I know zero bits of HTML, how vital is this in blogging, and what is a good resource for starting out?

What are some vital things to remember when blogging?

And lastly, How can I get my readers to leave the comments in the provided area on my blog rather than on my facebook page?!

Thank you so much for taking your time to answer questions and help out!!

    Meagen

Hi again! I have another question for you! :) In Blogger, how do you add images to your Blog Post Title and Footer? I’ve found a few tutorials but they are all from a few years ago and they have changed the html codes since then! Thank you!

    Hi Sarah!

I love your Nerd Q & A series- so helpful. Thanks for doing these!

    Some questions for you:

1)What is a good source for cute, simple backgrounds?

    2) Buying Photoshop at retail is so expensive…are there any free programs that have some of the essential elements?

    and lastly…

3)What program do you use for your photo collages?

Thank you in advance. Love your blog so much! Keep up the good work :)

I’m on Blogger and my current layout has 4 menus right under the header. Currently, you can click each word on the menu and go to a new page. However, I’d like to change them into drop down menus. For instance, what I’d like to do is when you hover over my Series button a drop down menu would appear listing all my series vs. clicking the word and going to a series page.

What’s the HTML to create the drop down menus??

I’m a graphic design student and I have been working on my blog design but I have had trouble with changing the widget title on the GFC followers. Is there something different you have to do for that one?
