Learning Spanish: Mind Snacks iPhone App

I’ve wanted to learn Spanish for quite a few years now, but once you’re out of college it’s kind of hard to take classes. Pants is fluent and I have a little fantasy of us having secret conversation while we’re out and about (like no one else knows Spanish…rolling my eyes at myself here haha). My aunt is always handing out books on CD, but my attention span is never long enough to learn anything, which is why this Mind Snacks app is so awesome. While I don’t think I’ll be speaking in sentences any time soon, it’s a start!

The lessons start with a list of words or phrases – level 1 was numbers, level 2 was colors and days of the week. To hear the pronunciation you just tap the word and when you’ve got them cemented in your brain you start on the games.

The games focus on different parts of language learning, like spelling and word recognition and there are challenges to unlock more games! There are 50 levels with 1,400 words and phrases. I’m on level 8 after just a week!
The algorithm is designed to continuously reinforce material from past lessons that may be tougher to retain as you progress through new material, and adapts to your individual performance and needs by focusing more on words that you have difficulty with and less on those that you don’t.
The app is free for one level, which was enough to completely sell me! The full version can be purchased for $4.99. I’m not one to pay more than a dollar or two for an app, so you know this one is good if I’m shelling out five!

* Mind Snacks didn’t pay me to write this review. I just went searching for Spanish apps one night and came up with gold :)

Thanks for blogging about us Sarah! We’re so stoked you’re on your way to speaking to Pants in Spanish by playing MindSnacks. We’re here if your readers have any questions or comments. :)
Awesome. I need to download this for Glenn. The sticky notes I put up all over items in the house don’t seem to be working hahah.
aww hahah you label stuff so he can learn spanish?? that’s so cute. i’ve been having super awkward conversations with pants where he says things and i only know a word or two. but that’s more than i knew before!
That is so cool! I must be one of the few who have not had an iPhone. This looks like so much fun! I love the avatar thing under challenges “ditch the baby gear” :) Good luck!
P.S. Do they have lots of other languages to choose from?
Yep! French, Italian, Portuguese, and it looks like they’re working on an English version and math and science ones too!
