Aerial: Session 9, Week 3

Having aerial mid-week is always such a relief. I can turn off everything else and completely focus on pushing myself through the exercises and tricks. First up this week was a body balance. You use a leg or two to find your sweet spot and then take your hands off. I was excited I was able to balance really fast this time.

Next we learned crucifix, which is not what I’m doing in the photo above. I slid down too far and got stuck and ended up baby-birding the trick.

My second attempt was much more graceful!

And finally swing up over the bar and back down into Angel.

I don’t have any photos of my lyra tricks this week, but here’s Qulia demonstrating the scariest trick so far this session, panda drop. Essentially you hang from the top of the lyra and then flip your legs forward, catching on your stomach. We were able to use our arms and slow the drop, but it was still really scary. For drops like this I just remind myself that as long as I fold I will always catch myself. It might hurt, but I’ve gotten plenty of bruises before and the shock factor is completely worth it.

As I’m writing this I’m watching Dance Moms on Lifetime. Have any of you seen this show? I left the channel on because the kids were learning an acro routine and I want to try out some of their moves, but the moms on this show are so so so fake and gossipy. It’s hilarious and incredibly entertaining.

    You’re definitely an Angel. :)

Man, still all of this stuff seems so… terrifying.

I can’t wait until your next performance. I’ve already decided what I’m going to try to do for Theatre Bizarre.
