You are where you need to be

July 16, 2010

I wrote this post a few weeks ago, but have been holding off on posting it for a while until it was just right…

Friday, after a very relaxing day getting a massage and reading on the deck in the melting sun, I met up with Jenni for yin yoga at the Fly House. The practice is slow and relaxing yet at the same time, challenging and intense. We stay in positions for five to 10 minutes and I concentrate on my breathing and imagine waves washing over my muscles as they are screaming for relief.

During this session the instructor  repeatedly reminded us “you are where you need to be.” It didn’t matter how deep I could get into a pose or how long I could stay there. For everyone it was different and we were each doing what was best for our own bodies.

It was such a comforting thought then, and it’s a comforting thought now.

I have a tendency to always be planning and working toward something and it was nice to release a little of that and not worry some much about being bigger, better, faster, stronger. It’s relieving to give myself permission to be content, to clear my mind of all wants and to-dos, to let go of control enough to understand that I am at this place in my life for a reason.

i’m always looking ahead or sometimes backwards, so it’s good to be reminded to look where you presently are.

That sounds intensely relaxing and amazing. I’m hoping Groupon offers a yoga deal soon so I can sign up for a local class! I’ve always wanted to do it!
