Saturday night I had the extreme pleasure of seeing Frontiers: A Tribute to Journey. For those of you shaking your heads, thinking it was some half-assed drunken Journey cover band. It was not! It was amazing!

My cousin, brother and I showed up a little after 8 thinking, if nothing else, it will be really cheesy and entertaining. We were definitely the youngest people in the room, which was filled with mostly 40-something who were SEATED, drinking beer and EATING POPCORN.

After an hour of standing around feeling awkward, the opener – an old dude jam band – came on stage. Not my jam, not my jam at all. There was lots of gross hair flipping, awkward dance moves, and cheesy inspiring lyrics. The crowd was producing equally awkward dance moves and made me a little paranoid that I would end up a 40-something trying too hard to be hip and sexy. I was very relieved when I caught sight of one women who still looked hot and could dance. Whew!

Frontiers took the stage around 10 and it was fantastic! The singer sounded exactly like Steve Perry. The whole crowd was singing along and they played all the songs I wanted to hear. There was a couple, probably in their 70s, absolutely loving the show, arms in the air, singing along – it was adorable! Frontiers played for close to two hours, with two encores and a really fancy drum solo.

Frontiers is on tour right now and I totally recommend picking up Journey’s Greatest Hits and checking out their show.

I love Journey SO MUCH. The band was recently in Nashville for a concert but Journey without Steve Perry is just NOT Journey. Though, being that you said this band is THAT good, if they ever play near me I might have to check them out. Sounds like fun!

Mandi – I totally agree, I just can’t watch Journey without Steve Perry. But fake Journey, I can do that!

You both are so pretty. :)

It’s always strange and kind of off-putting, but somehow fascinating, watching people dance who totally can’t, isn’t it? It’s like, “wow! that’s really bad,” you say, and yet you can’t tear your eyes away from the spectacle.

I cringe at that stuff. But hey, they do say if you’re dancing like no one’s watching, and you’re having a great time, F ‘em. Why not.
