Adventures on OkCupid: First Date

February 9, 2010

I took the plunge last night and went on a date with someone I met on OkCupid. We figured out we share a few mutual friends, so I was fairly sure he wasn’t a serial killer or a puppy kicker or anything terrible like that.

We decided to see Crazy Heart and stopped for smoothies at a shop behind the theater. I really, really liked the movie. The music, despite despising country, was great and there were some beautiful panoramic shots. Though after having dated a few musicians, it brought back some memories (not of old, drunken men) which was just lovely.

My date was very sweet and I had a really good time, but there was no chemistry. I think he was excited at the prospect of a second date, so I felt a little bad emailing this morning to tell him I had a lot of fun, but needed sparks, fireworks and all that cheesy crap.

I’ve been on OkCupid for about a week now and I’m pretty sure it’s making my eye twitch and giving me heart burn. It was pretty entertaining at first, but with the number of messages I’ve received it’s a little stressful. I know, I know, poor me getting hit on by all those guys. I’ll shut up now ;)

haha i think we all know that feeling. i think girls get MUCH more attention on those sites, so it’s hard to let some down and easy to feel guilty since some seem like nice guys, they’re just not your type.

at least you had a decent date though :) mine from yesterday was a nightmare but at least gave me very good blog fodder.

    there’s always more out there!

At least it wasn’t horrific! I always figure the act of dating is success in and of itself, even if there’s nothing that comes from it. But when I was dating, I wasn’t getting all the interest you are, so perhaps my standards were a bit lower :-)

Gotta love passive dating… I’ve had lots of good stories result from this and probably will have lots more because of my unwillingness to go out to bars much anymore…

    Happy hunting to you!

Poor, poor you… Ha. At least you went on a date and moved into that phase of utilizing the service. Hopefully there’s more sparks next time.

Don’t you dare feel bad! Fireworks are important! That is what keeps a relationship strong, the butterflies that fill in your stomach every time you see the person. Sorry this gentlemen wasn’t it for you – but there are many other men out there. And I wish I was getting hit on as much as you. I might join just for a confidence booster ;) HaHa.

ps- I just saw one your 101 things to accomplish list that you’ve never visited the DIA. Let’s go! I love, love, love that place. I’ll go whenever you want :)
