Hello 2010, so glad you’re here! 2009 was a real motherfucker.
I hope you all had a lovely New Year’s Eve. Mine was very boisterous and then nice and quite.
Through one of her friends, Jessica and I were lucky enough to find ourselves in a suite for the last Wings game of the year. We ate pizza, got to see a couple good fights, and the Wings won!

After the game I dropped J off and headed home to hop in bed with Dexter and Slayer. I’ve got two episodes left in season two!!
Before the TV watching commenced, I decided to do a couple things to wrap up 2009 and put it out of my mind. First, I wrote down all the bad stuff that happened on slips of paper. I couldn’t think of many at first, but after four or five I got rolling. Then I took them downstairs to burn them and (hopefully) let them go.
Second, I got to work on my vision board for 2010. I decided to go with Gwen Bell’s idea of a white board, but also included a space for a weekly To Do list and a Happiness list. Gotta keep things organized, yet positive! Under orders from Gala Darling, I wrote my goals for the year in present statements. Not “I want to,” but “I am.” Then I cut out photos from magazines to go with some of my goals and wrapped the whole thing in lights.

In 2010 I am…Traveling, driving a new car, saving money, on time, accepting invitations to go out, making new friends, painting upstairs rooms, reading 25 books, gaining 100 blog followers (the box is stuck at the bottom of my site right now if you’re not a follower already – will fix soon!), going on adventures, stepping outside the box, launching a very popular website (I’ll tell you about it in the next month or so), falling in love (not any time soon, but at some point), volunteering.
There’s still quite a bit of space left, so I need to come up with more.
I have a tendency to get sucked into feeling bad when things so wrong, so my overall goal this year is to combat The Sad. My board has a note that says “You make the happy.” It’s all about attitude, right? I need to learn to get over the small stuff and refocus on what’s important. A month later I never remember why I was upset anyway, so why dwell on it when I could be out having great adventures.
Making my Last Decade List I found I spent a huge amount of time just hanging around with friends. Not that I don’t love that, I do, but I feel I didn’t do enough memorable things. The middle of a decade was a total blur of concerts and bars and alcohol, so this time I’m going to think bigger and achieve more I am thinking bigger and achieving more.
What are your goals for this year?

I love the white board idea. I think the “I am” statements are so key. I read that in a magazine about a year ago and it has really helped me to accomplish things this year. All the best in 2010!
Wow, I really LOVE this vision board. Seriously, it’s awesome. I should try to do something like that. I think it’s be highly motivational. I just might get off my butt today, turn of Dexter and do this. Thank-you for the idea! :)
And Wings game in a suite to finish up the year – sounds like a fabulous way to bring in 2010! :)
ps- I rented season one of Dexter on NYE and finished it yesterday. Seriously, addicted! I’m now a few episodes into season two and I just don’t want to stop. It’s such a wonderful show. So glad it made your ‘Happiness is’ list because it sure as heck is on mine right now!
Hey Sarah!
Well, this is kinda weird. I was reading GalaDarling’s Getting Organised post that you linked to above(her ability to connect with her audience is outstanding) and then reading through the comments. For whatever reason I clicked on your name and then, of course, my first thought was: “wait, I know her!”
Stuff like that has been happening to me lately…anyway…
I debated internally about it, but I figured I should make myself known instead of lurking. And hey, as Renee said in the comment above, blog comments are Happiness on your board. I’m a huge fan of them myself. :)
So, with that: awesome goals/board/site! Your new Web site launch has me (and probably others who don’t know what it is) intrigued. :)
Karol
I see on your board that blog coments give you happiness so here’s one! :)
I discovered your blog a few days ago and I already read the whole thing – you and I are the same in that we don’t have too many female friends! I agree they are so much harder to make.
Anyways, I’m sure you’ve heard this a million times, but you really look like Hayley Williams from the band Paramore! Total compliment by the way, I think she’s stunning. All the best for the new year!

Renee – Your comment totally made my day! And yes, I’ve been told I look Like Hayley many times. I’ll take the compliment!
Jenni – I won an Emmy for a site I created for a show we did on breast cancer a few years ago. It’s currently on the bookshelves in my mom’s living room.
Kate – I planning to go on vacation with my family to South Carolina. Hopefully I’ll get to take a few other trips too, but nothing else planned yet.
