dorkwave

Me, Klair and Eileen dancing at Dorkwave waaay back in the day

After my last post, Lindsey mentioned there wasn’t anywhere to go out dancing in her town. So, my dear, I have a solution – make your own dance party!

Grab your friends, load on the makeup and sequins (you can be ridiculous as you want since you won’t be leaving the house), fill up your iPod with my No-Fail Booty-Movin’ Playlist, push the furniture out of the way and get dancin’!

Goldfrap – Ooh La La

Le Tigre – Decepticon

MGMT – Kids

Peaches – Shake Yer Dix

Ting Tings – Shut Up and Let Me Go

Vampire Weekend – A-Punk

Justice – D.A.N.C.E.

Young Shields – When You Were Mine

The Prototypes – Who’s Gonna Sing

Ladytron – Destroy

Britney Spears – Gimme More

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Date the Night

LCD Soundsystem – Daft Punk is Playing at My House

Of Montreal – The Party’s Crashing Us

Men, Women, & Children – Messy

The Dismemberment Plan – Gyroscope

MSTRKRFT – Easy Love

Muse – Starlight

New Young Pony Club – Ice Cream

The Rapture – House of Jealous Lovers

Tyvek – Give It Up

This playlist may also be used to make house cleaning and errand running more fun. You’re welcome in advance for the workout ;)

Here’s a little outfit inspiration:

Do That Dance
Do That Dance by sillygrrl featuring Miss Selfridge

My dance party essentials include:

Flat boots: I need my shoes to stay on my feet, protect my toesies from getting stomped and let me last all night. I don’t want to have to stop dancing halfway through the night.

Small bag: If I don’t have pockets I rock a tiny bag from H&M that’s big enough to hold my BBerry, camera, money, ID, and lipgloss. It has a long strap, which I wear across my body so the hands are free for ridiculous dance moves.

As little clothing as possible while still looking classy: Bottom line, it’s gonna be hot and you’re gonna get sweaty, so I opt for a light dress with shorts or leggings underneath.

Have fun and if you put my playlist to use I want to see pictures! (xosillygrrl@gmail.com)

What are your no-fail dance party songs?

My girlfriends and I have always been partial to “Physical” by Olivia Newton John, but we never say no to any playlist iTunes Genius creates under “Respect,” “It’s Raining Men,” or “Proud Mary!” :)
