Friday was my last day of work until next year, but there was a blizzard and my attempt to leave the house was a total fail. We got about a foot of snow and I dug my car out while my dad plowed the driveway. You know it’s bad when you have to use a push broom to clean off your car, but I was determind to get to work so my mini pumpkin cheesecakes could kick everyone’s asses in the bake-off.
The guy plowing the neighbor’s driveway was nice enough to do our side of the street so I could leave and then cleared a path out of the subdivision for me. Unfortunately as I floored it to the top of the court, I missed his tracks and got myself stuck in the uncleared side of the street. The friendly plow man and my dad push my car out and I was on my way.
When I got out to the main road the snow was still deep and I had to turn left instead of right because there weren’t enough tracks for my little car to get through.
About a mile away I called my mom and decided I would be best if I just went back home. Who knows how long it would have taken me (my commute is usually 40 mins) or how far I would have made it before getting stuck again. So I pulled into a shopping center and turned around. (It’s worth pointing out that ‘Let It Snow’ came on the radio as I was driving home.)
I should have driven in the cleared out street for my sub instead of the non-cleaned in side because of course, I got stuck again. Drive, reverse, drive reverse, my car wouldn’t budge. I called my dad to come help and then grabbed the shovel out of my trunk and started clearing the snow from behind my tires.
A guy in a Jeep pulled up and had me get back in my car so he could push me out. My dad showed up, we did more shoveling, and then he got behind the wheel and finally my car was freed.
Despite multiple offers to go out, I didn’t leave my house for the rest of the day. Instead I stayed in and worked from my couch, painted my nails, cleaned the bathroom, and wrapped presents.

Despite all the morning commute drama, it sounds like a wonderful way to spend a day to me.
EEP! Adventure minus the fun. Love staying in on bad-weather days/nights!
i’m so jealous of you guys having snow, i hear it’s annoying, but we don’t have snow. What most aussies consider snow is sleet. What I wouldn’t give for a white christmas compared to a way-too-hot-to-do anything christmas.
“Let It Snow” is one of the most shortsighted songs ever. Sure, it may seem nice to be snowed in — you can have all the corn for popping you want — but sooner or later, you gotta go out to shovel that crap and drive in that nonsense.
i was so glad i didn’t go in on friday. i drive 30 miles it would have taken me all morning. not to mention i would have been a nervous wreck :)
